As Lead of the GW4 Lymph Node Research Consortium and Co-Lead of Lymph Node Research UK (LNRUK), Lucy Jones organised a national webinar dedicated to embedding world-class data stewardship into immunological science: "Navigating FAIR Data Principles in Modern Lymph Node Immunology." The webinar was designed and presented by Dr. Rob Andrews, BioFAIR Fellow and Reader in Bioinformatics at Cardiff University.
This session brought together early-career researchers (ECRs), PPIE members and senior academics across the GW4 Alliance and the national LNRUK network to explore how robust data architectures accelerate discovery and collaborative research.
Dr. Andrews provided a masterclass on the operationalisation of the FAIR Data Principles-ensuring research outputs are strictly ‘Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable.’
Moving beyond theoretical frameworks, Dr. Andrews tailored the discussion directly to the unique challenges of modern immunology and lymph node research, addressing:
The event received outstanding feedback from participants, who commended the session for translating complex data governance concepts into practical, actionable workflows for wet-lab scientists, bioinformaticians, and clinical academics alike. Attendees noted that the insights gained would directly improve the quality and reach of their data management plans and collaborative research proposals.
Due to the exceptional reception and direct requests from the research community, we are delighted to confirm that this FAIR data webinar will be held again next academic year to ensure our network remains at the forefront of open, reproducible, and impactful immunological research.
Robert Andrews is a member of the management board of ELIXIR-UK, a national organisation of 31 UK universities and institutes bringing together life science data and resources from across UK and Europe. He has co-led the ELIXIR-UK FAIR Data Steward Fellowship, co-leads an (inter)national, grassroots Data Stewardship Club with 58 UK member institutions and has recently become a BioFAIR Fellow funded by the UKRI to promote FAIR in UK’s life sciences.
