To ensure that our translational research maintains the highest standards of safety, ethics, and regulatory compliance, we also organised a dedicated Clinical Governance in Lymph Node Research Workshop. Designed to bridge the gap between bench science and clinical application, this session brought together early-career researchers (ECRs), senior academics, and NHS research delivery staff from across Lymph Node Research UK (LNRUK) and the GW4 Alliance.
The workshop was designed and delivered by Helen Falconer, Lead for Research Governance at Cardiff University. Helen plays a pivotal role in the translational ecosystem, working in close collaboration with Dr. Lucy Jones to design and implement cutting-edge clinical trials and observational studies at Cardiff University. This work is a result of strong cross-institutional integration with Cardiff and Vale University Health Board, led by Dr. Matt Wise (Director of Research), ensuring that innovative immunological studies transition seamlessly from academic conceptualisation into robust, patient-centred NHS research environments.
Helen delivered an exceptional, highly interactive presentation tailored specifically to the unique governance considerations of human tissue research, clinical sampling, and interventional trials. Key topics included:
The session successfully equipped researchers with the practical tools and regulatory knowledge needed to execute complex, high-impact clinical research with total compliance and confidence.
Delegate feedback across both academic and clinical cohorts was outstanding, with participants praising the clarity, practical relevance, and strategic value of the training.
We extend our sincere gratitude to Helen Falconer for sharing her valuable time, regulatory insight, and deep expertise with our research community. Her ongoing support remains vital to the growth of the Welsh Lymph Node Research Hub and the broader LNRUK network. Due to popular demand, we are pleased to announce that this workshop will return in the upcoming academic year, keep an eye out for registration details to secure your spot!
